Love following along. Great observations, Matt. Have seen the benefits personally of working in seasons!

You said it Taylor. Living and working in seasons is the way :-)

Excellent. Well said with the seasons of a man, a book that’s on my wishlist. You said you quit your job, what are you up to now? Freelance work? And how would you reconcile this mindset with a corporate role? Is it as simple as just making more time for friends and taking more time off?

Hey Matches, thanks for reading! My work has changed quite a bit between when I wrote this and now. I capture this in one snapshot when I write about my "elemental" approach to work: https://morehumanpossible.com/p/the-alchemy-of-work

Right now, I'm mostly focused on coaching, Downshift, and writing, but that will likely change later this year. My primary "element" of work is my 1:1 coaching practice which you can learn more about here: https://mattyao.co/

It's interesting, I think this mindset of living in seasons may actually be easier to implement in a corporate role in some ways. Given the stable income and the significantly more predictability in work, someone working corporate can introduce much more dynamism into non-work aspects of their life such as travel and where they live. For example, I just finished skiing in Niseko, Japan for a week and there were multiple people in that group that work full-time jobs (remote) and they travel a ton. One guy has an apartment in NYC but hasn't been back in 2 months (he found a subletter). Another guy is like me and doesn't have a lease and is based at home with family, but travels the vast majority of the time.

It's as simple as doing more of what you want and flowing with the constraints you're given, but that's often easier said than done.

Thank you for the thought-out reply and well-reasoned response. The winter blues have been hitting my corporate role but I am excited to take this mindset into the Spring and try to break up the routine!

A beautiful read Matt. I agree with a lot of what you said as someone who is completely swamped with commitments 24/7 and who also lives a digital nomad lifestyle such as yourself.

My heart is truly obsessed with a few desires some of which are orthogonal to each other, such as travelling a lot vs staying put and grinding on side projects to make something amazing. It's becoming harder and harder to make up my mind but I am telling myself that as long as I am taking one step forward at a time the rest of the path will reveal itself.
