In a similar vein, "Designing Your Life" by Prof. Burnett and Prof. Evans talks about "prototyping" different careers. The fundamental idea is the same - try different careers before going down that path - but I really appreciate the contemporary take of this article. I'd be very curious to hear your thoughts on the book if you've read it!
haven't read it, but sounds very similar to what I'm talking about. I like the idea and feel like I am prototyping with multiple careers right now too. I think creating the container in which prototyping can even begin to take place is the hard part right now
love this reframe! one idea I'll throw in there is enabling folks to invest in emerging talent (similar to small/micro cap stocks) and allow that person to take big bets through experimentation. call it the modern stock market
Great article! Re your last point about an academy of experimentation- have you heard of Recurse Center? https://www.recurse.com/ Feels very aligned with what you're trying to get at
oh yeah I've seen this before! yeah it seems very aligned. programming seems like a good skill to have this type of thing for since there's a clear producible thing that you can point to, I'm not sure if a Recurse center for PMs could work haha, I think this would be really cool for digital product design, but also a physical design skillset like a huge makershop

that would be fun, I don't know if it's proven out yet, but Slow Ventures is doing this and investing in creators.
